Amazon takes Prime to Apple as Google pulls YouTube from Fire

Amazon takes Prime to Apple as Google pulls YouTube from Fire

In a statement, a Google representative said it's taking the action because the YouTube apps on Amazon products aren't made by Google, like the YouTube app on the iPhone is, and the retail giant doesn't sell some Google products, such as Chromecast and Google Home. Netflix, HULU and more have been available to stream on Apple TV, but up until recently, Amazon Prime Video was missing in action. The streaming devices also offer free, ad-supported channels such as TubiTV, PBS and Crackle and network TV apps (NBC, ABC, FX), which can only be seen with proof of a cable subscription and access to recent movies.

Decent app for streaming or downloading Amazon Prime Video content to your smartphone.

According to Archer, while the Amazon Prime Video app has excellent video quality, the app appears to be only outputting audio in PCM stereo.

Meanwhile in Apple land, the addition of Prime Video should help bolster the Apple TV's content library until the company's billion dollar push into original programming bears fruit.

What that means in practical terms is that, if you use the Amazon ecosystem to enjoy movies and TV, you'll no longer be able to dial up YouTube, whether you're jonesing for classic camp like Beware!

Apple TV 4K with Amazon Prime

There is no obligation for Amazon to carry products of any kind, and the company has exercised its editorial decision over its selection and products before. The former uses search and other web services to sell ads, while the latter is an online retailer of goods and services.

That rule also results in a slightly confusing experience on Amazon's iOS video app. This, too, can be synced across all users' Apple devices. Google is miffed by the fact that it is losing ad revenue from Fire TV which was the best selling streaming device in U.S. and India.

These kinds of disputes can be confusing for consumers who probably just want to watch the things they like on the devices they've bought.

Amazon Fire TV is based on the open-source version of the Android platform and does not provide access to the Google store. Most of the companies making these devices also have their own streaming services.
