McLaren Senna revealed: 'brutal' track-focused hypercar produces 789bhp

It's completely road-legal.

McLaren have unveiled one of their most impressive supercars to date, the McLaren Senna.

McLaren has just unleashed its most extreme road auto ever, and it's named after none other than the late, great Ayrton Senna, who won three F1 championships for McLaren before his untimely death in 1994. The McLaren Senna is powered by a 4.0 litre turbocharged V8 engine and it comes with 800 Nm of torque.

Named Senna after the legendary Formula 1 driver, the road-legal supercar makes 789bhp, and at just 1,198kg it's the lightest road auto the Woking-based company has made since its iconic F1 supercar.

A 7-speed dual-clutch automatic handles the furious shifting duties that the V-8 demands, while a double wishbone suspension system with interconnected dampers and constantly monitors the road to stick all four wheels firmly on terra firma. The auto is expected to have a top speed of "at least 200mph".

Instead the Senna is aimed at buyers looking to turn up at a track day and set the fastest lap time.

But McLaren actually kept one auto back from allocation, and it went under the hammer at their Winter Ball in London this weekend. "Day-to-day practicality also goes onto the back burner", says the magazine.

Furthermore the braking system, which features carbon ceramic discs as standard, is said to be the most advanced ever fitted to a McLaren road auto.

But even if you do have a spare three-quarters-of-a-million pounds sitting idle in your bank, you're too late to buy the Senna as all 500 models of the hypercar have sold out, even though the Senna will only launch after its public debut at the Geneva Motor Show next year.

According to the British carmaker, the yet-to-be-named vehicle will be "track-concentrated" and appear before the three-seater "hyper-GT".

The majority of McLaren's vehicles feature a centrally-mounted single or dual-pipe exhaust at the rear, but the new auto has three tailpipes that exit at what appears to be the base of the engine cover.

"It provides the purest connection between driver and vehicle", the company said in a news release.

The regular price of the vehicle is £750,000 after taxes, or approximately $1 million or €853,300 at current exchange rates, and it should be mentioned that each auto sold will also benefit the same charity foundation.

The car's extreme aerodynamics take their cues from the 720S, but are shaved of any unnecessary elements to reduce weight.
