Baby in critical condition, man stabbed in attack at Toronto condo

Baby in critical condition, man stabbed in attack at Toronto condo

A four-month-old baby suffered life-threatening injuries during a double stabbing Wednesday morning in Etobicoke, Toronto police said.

Police said they were called at around 8.35am local time to the building near Sherway Gardens Road and Evans Avenue.

"Our officers rushed to the scene and found the baby", Const. David Hopkinson said.

The infant was taken to a trauma centre.

Knowles said he was unable to confirm the relationships of the victims and the suspect, but said "residents of the building are involved".

A woman has been arrested.

Police say it appeared she had been seriously assaulted in "another manner as well".

Police also found the injured man at the scene and eventually found the woman as well.

He said he will soon be heading to hospital to get an update on the baby's condition.

Peel paramedics confirmed to CP24 that the woman sustained lacerations to her arms and was taken to a Mississauga hospital. David Knowles said at least part of the incident occurred in the lobby.

Building resident Joan Sloss, 70, said she saw paramedics while she was getting her mail in the morning, but initially did not think anything of it.

The baby was transported to a nearby hospital.

"To hear it was a four-month-old baby is just so sad", Lothian said.

"This is very upsetting", said the 72-year-old.

"I don't have any specifics on the baby's condition at this point".

Officers continued to come and go from the building Wednesday afternoon but said they could not comment on the investigation.
