Apple gets rare downgrade after rising more than 50% in 2017

"Apple India has sought concessions, including duty exemptions on manufacturing and fix units, components, capital equipment including parts and consumables for smartphone manufacturing and service/repair for a period of 15 years", said Commerce and Industry minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

The Cupertino-based company has raised prices of most iPhones in India by 3 percent to 5 percent.

Apple iPhone 6s, iPhone 7 performance issues linked to battery, iOS update by GeekBench developer.

For one, it has come in what would typically be a "tock" year for Apple (where the revised iPhone 4S, 5S, and 6S have launched), but it instead launched alongside the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus (and not 7S and 7S Plus, as might have been expected), and this alone might have influenced the usual pattern of Apple's stock.

All that said, there's reason to believe that Apple will report a blowout quarter next month.

The company has unveiled its iPhone X model costing $1,646.61 for a 256 GB type. 2018 is supposed to be a busy year for the tech giant and users should expect iPhone X Plus, iPhone 9 and even iPhone XI.

The import tax on imported iPhones was increased from 10% to 15% in a bid to encourage local manufacturing.

Apple's Taiwanese contract manufacturer, Wistron, assembles the iPhone SE in the technology hub of Bengaluru in southern India.

Previously, Apple has stated that they'd like to expand their manufacturing presence in the country, which would lead to an overall lower iPhone price in India, but rolling out new infrastructure takes time.

Indian consumers are a large smartphone market, as one of the largest countries in the world. As many in India rely on smartphones as their primary method of internet access and entertainment, a lot of consumers turn towards mid-range smartphones with large screens that are flawless for watching videos. Still, as smartphones continue to become such a central part of so many people's lives, examining their potential performance flaws should become a serious concern for users.

The founder of Primate Labs, which makes the Geekbench app used to benchmark performance of iPhones and other mobile and desktop devices, dug deeper into the numbers collected by the app - after a popular Reddit post last week discussing the issue - and published his findings Monday.
