JeM militants killed in gunfight, woman dies in clashes

However clashes between forces and locals resumed early morning during which third militant was able to break the cordon and flee from the spot, said a police source. The gunfight continued throughout the night.

Police said security forces opened fire after they came under intense stone pelting.

Two unidentified militants were killed in an overnight encounter with security forces in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir, the Army said on Tuesday. They were identified as Tanveer Ahmad from Batmuran Shopian and Ali @Qari, a foreign militant.

The police claimed that the killed militants were "involved in a number of militant incidents including the recent attack on the vehicle of J&K Bank near Poju Shopian on 11th of December 2017 in which two bank guards were killed". "It was group of Jaish militants", he said. The government forces responded with bullets and pellet fires. She was shifted to hospital where doctors declared her brought dead.

The trapped militants tried to escape while firing their guns but soldiers retaliated, leading to a prolonged clash. A woman whom the locals identified as Rubeena Jan, daughter of Abdul Rashid was hit by a bullet in her abdomen.

The locals according to reports staged massive pro-freedom protest protests in and around the encounter site. Police further said that " as cordon was strengthened the civilians of nearby area were evacuated".

The APHC spokesman in a statement in Srinagar said that the Indian police is denying meetings between prisoners and their families and unnecessarily creating hurdles in the release of the detainees.
