Apple Now Requires Games Offering Loot Boxes to Disclose Odds

Apple Now Requires Games Offering Loot Boxes to Disclose Odds

Building a slide deck, pitch, or presentation? However, Apple wants each business to submit the app; the app template services shouldn't be the ones to publish them. From now on, mobile app developers will have to do the same in the US. A template service uploading thousands of apps at once under a single developer account could cause the App Store to crash. An example of a genre that will soon be affected by the change in Apple's rules is card collectible games (CCGs), impacting titles like Elder Scrolls: Legends and Hearthstone, which often rely on the sales of packs awarding a collection of random cards as their main source of income. After that date, the App Store Review team will start rejecting apps that are published by an app template company. That means a template service or app creation platform can not publish the app on behalf of the organization.

Opponents to the original guidelines included California Congressman Ted W. Lieu, who penned a letter to Apple CEO Tim Cook who said that, in its effort to weed out the bad actors, Apple was "casting too wide a net and invalidating apps from longstanding and legitimate developers who pose no threat to the App Store's integrity". The new section 4.2.6 also goes on to add that third-party template developers should "offer tools that let their clients create customized, innovative apps that provide unique customer experiences".

Well, it seems the recent "loot box" drama of Star Wars: Battlefront II which set the internet on fire might have caused Apple to institute an official policy before they face a similar PR disaster of their own. While there'll still be some mystery as to what you'll get, you'll at least have a better idea of the odds of getting it.
