Princess Michael of Kent wears racist brooch to Buckingham Palace

Princess Michael of Kent wears racist brooch to Buckingham Palace

While we don't know if Meghan broached the topic of the brooch with her future in-law, we do know this isn't Princess Michael of Kent's first experience with conscious or unconscious racism.

One guest was Princess Michael of Kent, who chose to wear a rather interesting brooch for her first meeting with Meghan.

The offending item of jewellery could be seen clearly pinned to the 72-year-old's coat as she was photographed driving through the gates of Buckingham Palace on Wednesday (20 December).

Meghan Markle has faced racist attacks during her time in the royal spotlight for some time now.

"Blackamoor" is defined as the style of 18th century artwork in which black men and women are depicted as dark-skinned African slaves.

Markle, 36, has been open about her cultural heritage, telling the world that she is "bi-racial".

"I knew it was coming, I always do".

"I travelled on African buses".

"The demure, high-necked black top is a clue that she might be keen to be on her best behaviour, but it's her facial expression that suggests she might be breathing a huge sigh of relief once what probably has to be once of the most daunting Christmas lunches ever is finally over". In 2004, she allegedly told a group of African-Americans at a NY restaurant to "go back to the colonies".

The princess strongly denied the allegations, claiming she said that she would be "ready to go back to the colonies". Morphing from Latina when I was dressed in red, to African-American when in mustard yellow; my closet filled with fashionable frocks to make me look as racially varied as an Eighties Benetton poster.

The royal lunch would have been the first time Princess Michael met Prince Harry's fiancee Meghan Markle.

"Blackamoor" is a genre of art believed to have originated in 16th century Venice that has been criticized for depicting racist, exoticized imagery of black servants and enslaved people. I wanted to be a writer.

In a subsequent TV interview, in which she attempted to defend her remarks she made matters worse, referring to African people as "adorable" as she insisted she was not a racist. I wanted experiences from Cape Town to right up in northern Mozambique. The items of jewellery are valued at £10,000 or more.
