Defense Be Damned, Arsenal And Liverpool's 3-3 Draw Was Thrilling

Defense Be Damned, Arsenal And Liverpool's 3-3 Draw Was Thrilling

This match had a bit of everything: awesome attacking, deplorable defending, ghastly goalkeeping and glorious goals.

Liverpool, who have won 18 league titles, haven't ended on top of the table since 1990. Since their disappointing loss to Manchester United earlier this month, Arsene Wenger reverted back to a regular 4-2-3-1, mostly because of injuries to Skhodran Mustafi and Aaron Ramsey, but Arsenal have been far from the fluid unit which pegged back Tottenham Hotspur and United - and it only took Liverpool 25 minutes to expose the chink in the Gunners' armour.

It was Philippe Coutinho who opened the scoring in the 26th minute and that was to be the only goal in the first half.

Liverpool were not finished yet, though, as on 71 minutes they levelled the scores.

The visitors established a two-goal lead on 52 minutes, with a touch of fortune.

Nearly immediately Salah scored, the hitherto anonymous Alexis Sanchez sprang to life to reduce the deficit with a close range header. Three hundred and eighty eight seconds after Salah's strike, Arsenal had taken the lead much to the delight of the raucous Emirates crowd, for whom Christmas had arrived early.

Just three minutes later and the Gunners were level.

But Arsenal wasn't done. A good team move resulted in Alexandre Lacazette producing a sublime back-heel to put Mesut Ozil through on goal.

But Liverpool being Liverpool - and Arsenal being Arsenal - there were always going to be more goals.

It seemed unlikely that would be the end of the drama and so it proved as Firmino turned and struck a powerful left-foot shot that Cech could only parry and the ball looped into the net.

Unfortunately, neither side was able to find a late victor.

After throwing away another lead, Liverpool now stay in the fourth place, but the awful defending from both sides indicated that they would struggle for the Champions League qualification if they will not improve that area.
