Julian Assange's Twitter account is back, but the mystery remains

It accused Twitter of deleting Assange's account to silence him ahead of a major story.

The WikiLeaks founder has tweeted two times since his account came back online, though neither one addresses the reason for the disappearance. However, a source who works closely with WikiLeaks told the Gateway Pundit that they were not aware of any plans for Assange to deactivate his account.

Wikileaks founder Julian Assange's Twitter account disappeared late Sunday and social media was confused as to what may have happened. The tweet was subsequently deleted, but you can see a screenshot here.

"#JulianAssange has been deleted off of twitter". There was no confirmation that Assange authored the alternative account and it was later suspended by Twitter. In the meantime, consider it an early Christmas present.

Assange followed up with a promotional tweet, and a cute corgi, linking it to WikiLeak's donation page. Assange can nearly certainly avail himself of several other social media accounts: @WikiLeaks, and those of the cat who keeps him company in his embassy exile, @EmbassyCat and on Instagram.

Assange sought asylum in the embassy in June 2012 to escape rape charges in Sweden, which he has denied.

Twitter has not responded to TheWrap's request for comment.

A statement from WikiLeaks pointed out some "oddities" from the social media platform and the US Navy, but noted that apart from increased surveillance at the Ecuadorian embassy, the 46-year-old Australian was fine.
