Serena Williams: return will shakeup 2018 WTA Tour

Abu Dhabi: World's top tennis stars are set to compete at the 10th edition of the Mubadala World Tennis Championship (MWTC), which gets underway today and will run till Dec.30, in Abu Dhabi at the International Tennis Centre, Zayed Sports City.

"It's been a real roller-coaster ride for me for a year-and-a-half with this issue. I've never had surgery in my life, I've never had any major injuries that kept me away from the tour for such a long time", Djokovic said.

"To do well here would be an awesome feeling but I'm not going to weigh my whole year and rest of career on the next three, four weeks", she said.

For the first time, the event will stage a women's match - and it will feature former world No1 Serena Williams in her first appearance since giving birth to her first child in September.

'I've always had a lot of good times on the court in Abu Dhabi but also off the court I think it's a very pleasant tournament to be part of. It was a big decision, a big call to make.

Since the Australia Open in January. In January, she won the Australian Open yet again, marking her 23rd Grand Slam singles victory and putting her second on the all-time list (behind Margaret Court, who won 24 Grand Slams throughout her career).

Djokovic has added Radek Stepanek to his new coaching team spearheaded by American great Andre Agassi. "And it was a somewhat necessary experience because I got maybe too comfortable with not having major injuries", Djokovic added in the interview.

The 33-year-old former US Open champion says she expects to play next summer's circuit at least and will be looking to improve on a first-round exit at Pat Rafter Arena last summer to seeded Garbine Muguruza.

On September 1, 2017, the Olympic athlete gave birth to her first child, daughter Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr.
