Is NBC Bringing Back Mad About You!?

Is NBC Bringing Back Mad About You!?

Another TV revival could be headed your way. We saw where they went. Reports say producers are talking about a possible eighth season of the show, and stars Helen Reiser and Helen Hunt could both return.

The Hollywood Reporter, citing sources, says the studio has entered informal talks for a potential eighth season of the Emmy-nominated sitcom that starred Helen Hunt and Paul Reiser as a newly married couple in NY. Reiser, who was the co-creator of the original series, is spearheading efforts to revive the show for a limited run. When it left off, the storyline centered around the married couple-played by Hunt and Reiser-and the birth of their daughter, named Mabel.

Producers at Sony Television are said to be in informal talks with the stars to launch a reboot of the show, nearly two decades after it went off air.

"Mad About You" ran for seven years from 1992 to 1999 and explored the lives of the newlywed Buchman couple and the domestic life in the Big Apple. And by the seventh and last season, the two were making $1 million each an episode.

While the sitcom reboots are doing well with their original cast members, the drama reboots such as MacGyver and S.W.A.T. are also seeing success with their new casts and updated storylines. Stars Reiser and Hunt would be slated to return for the revival.

That said, Mad About You has been gone for a very long time, almost 20 years, and it's unclear how many viewers have been carrying a torch for it for all this time. We did it, it was done, we had a finale we were very happy with and it seemed final.

"People were asking about bringing 'Mad About You, ' and for years I said no, why would you?'" Reiser told IndieWire. At that time, he mentioned being open to an empty-nest plotline, noting, "It's like that moment when you get married. Like, oh, here's another point in life that we don't know what the heck is going to happen".
