Cavs' Isaiah Thomas Will Make Debut Against Portland

Cavs' Isaiah Thomas Will Make Debut Against Portland

The prospect of playing against Irving on the Garden parquet is something that gets Thomas' energy up; he couldn't help but break into a wide smile on Friday when a reporter mentioned the upcoming Celtics game.

While the Cavaliers wait on Thomas' season debut, which could come sometime in December, James said that through the popular video game, he's started prepping for the star guards return - and it has him pretty excited at the future link-up. Thomas was a major contributor to Boston's success last season, as he had a career year averaging 28.9 points per game and 5.9 assists per game, leading his Celtics to the best record in the Eastern Conference.

Thomas' teammates are pumped for his debut, including Jose Calderon (who is going to lose minutes to Thomas... a good thing for the Cavs).

On New Year's Day, it was announced that Thomas will be available when the Cavs face the Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday.

Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue made it clear that Thomas, despite being a projected starter, will come off the bench and his minutes will be restricted. Thomas will not play Wednesday when the Cavs visit Boston. "It feels like I lost my powers...but once I get out there it's going to be too hard to hold me back".

The Cavs are eager to incorporate Thomas, who averaged almost 29 points last season, into their offense. But Thomas isn't anxious about not fitting in.

"That guy put on some performances, epic performances". "They traded for me for a reason and that was to play the game that I know how to play and that's make plays, try to make the right play each and every time down and score the ball".
