India issues demarche after Palestine envoy shares stage with terrorist Hafiz Saeed

India issues demarche after Palestine envoy shares stage with terrorist Hafiz Saeed

"We stand together with India in its fight against terrorism", Al Haija said.

A day after he shared the stage with Mumbai terror attack mastermind and Jamaat-ud-Dawa chief Hafiz Saeed at a rally in Rawalpindi, Palestine on Saturday recalled its envoy to Pakistan, Waleed Abu Wali.

"Government of India has strongly conveyed to the Palestinian side that the Palestinian Ambassador in Pakistan's association with terrorist Hafiz Saeed, who is prescribed by the United Nations, is unacceptable", the External Affairs Ministry said in a statement.

Earlier, Ministry of External Affairs on Saturday said that Palestine has conveyed regrets over its ambassador's presence at an event attended by global terrorist and mastermind of 26/11 Mumbai attacks Hafiz Saeed.

The ambassador's recall came hours after the Palestine conveyed its "deep regrets" for the envoy's decision and assured India that they are taking serious cognizance of their Ambassador's presence at this event.

The rally was organized by the Difa-e-Pakistan Council (Defense of Pakistan Council), an umbrella organization headed by Saeed, comprised of some 40 religious and extremist groups that regularly attack India, according to Ynet, which quoted Indian media as saying the New Delhi government was "surprised and shocked" by Abu Ali's presence at the rally. "But still, we can not find this acceptable... and the Palestinian government has chose to take action", he said.

In a stern statement on Friday night, the MEA said it would take up the matter "strongly", and had called in Ambassador Al Haija to deliver the message.

The statement added that India expressed its unhappiness to Palestinian Ambassador and in Ramallah to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, State of Palestine.

Addressing the rally which was attended by thousands of people, Saeed said India and Israel had formed a coalition that had the U.S. as a patron. He did not know the terrorist Hafiz Saeed.

"The State of Palestine highly appreciates India's support in its tireless efforts to end the Israeli occupation and the establishment of an independent State of Palestine on the 1967 boarders with East Jerusalem as its capital and this is especially seen in the honorable position that India has taken by voting in favor of the resolution in the United Nation General Assembly last week", the spokesman said. In fact, when Saeed spoke, he asked people around him who he was... and then the Ambassador gave his own speech and left the stage.

Palestine wants to maintain a healthy relationship with India.

Before attending the Difa-e-Pakistan event in Rawalpindi on Friday, Walid Abu Ali had a meeting with the Pakistan Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa early this month. With Pakistan's tremendous support to Palestine's cause, we do not feel alone.
