India, Pakistan exchange lists of prisoners, N-installations

India, Pakistan exchange lists of prisoners, N-installations

This was the 27th consecutive exchange of such lists between the two sides since 1992.

The Foreign Office said that this step is consistent with the provisions of the Consular Access Agreement between Pakistan and India signed on May 21, 2008, under which both Countries are required to exchange lists of prisoners in each other's custody twice a year, on January 01 and July 01, respectively. The released fishermen entered India via Wagah border.

Of the total, 399 are fishermen while 58 are common citizens.

"We also await consular access to those Indian nationals in Pakistan's custody for whom it has so far not been provided, including Kulbhushan Jadhav and Hamid Nehal Ansari", said the statement of the Indian External Affairs Ministry.

India on Monday once again noted that Pakistan had not yet granted consular access to former Indian Navy officer Kulbhushan Jadhav, whom a military court in the neighbouring country put on death row. The ministry also informed that a juvenile named Hasnain, whose nationality was verified by Pakistan, was being repatriated.

The Foreign Office said a list containing the names of 457 Indian inmates incarcerated in Pakistan's prisons has been provided to the Indian High Commission in Islamabad.

According to the pact, both neighbours must exchange an updated list showing nuclear installations and facilities on January 1 every year.

A list of 54 Pakistani civilians and 4 fishermen who have completed their sentences in India was also handed over and Islamabad asked to speed up the confirmation of their nationality, it added.
