Injured Murray withdraws from Brisbane International

Injured Murray withdraws from Brisbane International

I would love it to be No1 in the world level but I just want to play.

Murray limped through his Wimbledon campaign having first felt the problem during the French Open in June and his title defence ended with a quarter-final loss to Sam Querrey.

Andy Murray's long-term hip injury has forced him out of the Brisbane International, cast serious doubts over his participation in the Australian Open and has him contemplating surgery.

Murray was not due to play his first match in Brisbane until Thursday but opted out of the tournament after failing to train on Tuesday.

"It's definitely not a nice feeling, first of all for me as an athlete, to see my colleague walking out of the court not being able to finish the match", Krunic said in an on-court TV interview. You re-evaluate what's important to you.

"I don't really cramp a lot, so I'm actually surprised that today my body was like that", Muguruza said, adding that her calf muscles started to cramp early in the second set.

"Just because I've not played for such a long time", he said.

"I don't mind if it is at 30 in the world".

"I genuinely miss it so much and i would give anything to be back out there".

"When that's taken away from you, you realise how important it is".

"For tennis as a sport, it's not good when so numerous top players are injured and for extended periods", he added.

"Practising and doing everything in the gym is great but playing matches is what I need".

But the Scot insisted he is fit enough to start his campaign in Brisbane, with the Australian Open just two weeks away.

Murray previously said he expected to compete in Brisbane, explaining: "Unless something happens the next couple of days, I don't see myself not playing because of my hip".
