Another Wind Chill Advisory but relief is in sight

Bitter cold returns to Central New York starting Thursday night.

A wind chill advisory remains in effect until noon Saturday for our entire viewing area and beyond.

It has become old hat by now, but another Wind Chill Advisory has been issued for most of central IN tonight though late morning Friday. A Wind Chill Advisory means that cold air and the wind will combine to create low wind chills. In these conditions, frostbite can occur in 10 to 30 minutes if you are not dressed properly.

Those outside in State College and surrounding communities will feel as though it is anywhere from minus1 to minus 19 degrees outside through Sunday morning, according to forecasts from the National Weather Service and The Weather Channel.

Keep pets inside as much as possible.

The weather agency says temperatures will rapidly plunge to lows of -20 C to -25 C tonight, with wind chill values down even lower in the -35 to -40 range.

WHEN.From 7 PM this evening to 3 PM Saturday. A location near LaPorte has received 17-inches so far in the nearly continuous lake-effect snow showers.

Temperatures will get only colder through the weekend.
