Everton's Ross Barkley set for Chelsea medical

Everton's Ross Barkley set for Chelsea medical

Everton midfielder Ross Barkley is expected to have a medical at Chelsea on Friday before a £15m move to Stamford Bridge.

Barkley rejected a new contract offer from the Merseyside club last season and told former manager Ronald Koeman he wanted to leave for a new challenge.

Chelsea, who failed with a bid to land Barkley on deadline day, are now hoping to push through a deal in the next 48 hours for the midfielder.

The England global claimed he wanted a new challenge and there was reported interest in him from Tottenham Hotspur as well as the reigning Premier League champions.

He is out of contract at the end of the season and Toffees boss Sam Allardyce admitted on Thursday the club are "resigned to losing him".

Tottenham have been monitoring Barkley's situation but Sky Sports suggest the North Londoners have chose to end their interest with Mauricio Pochettino now looking at alternative targets.

Premier League champions Chelsea have been linked with a shock move for an Everton star as they look to bolster their squad in this transfer window. He said in his press conference, "I would expect there would be sometime in this window if there is going to be any interest from some of the big boys".

It will mean the player is leaving Goodison Park after 13 years, having joined Everton as an 11-year-old in 2005.
