Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek updates fans following brain surgery

Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek updates fans following brain surgery

The production of long-running TV game show Jeopardy! will be on hiatus after its host Alex Trebek is recovering from surgery.

Trebek was admitted to LA's Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on December 15 after experiencing complications from hitting his head in a fall in October.

In a video statement, Trebek said his prognosis is "excellent" and he plans to be back on the set of the popular trivia show "very, very soon". He underwent surgery in mid-December. Trebek is expected to make a full recovery.

Because Jeopardy! is filmed months in advance of airing, this unfortunate medical situation put a slight hold on things. "Alex spent Christmas at home with his family, and he will return to the Jeopardy! studio for taping in mid-January". It said the only change in its schedule would be to delay the show's annual college championship to April.

Trebek has been the host of Jeopardy! since 1984, and is contracted to host until 2020.
