Sleeping woman sexually assaulted on Spirit flight to Detroit: complaint

A United States man has been charged with aggravated sexual abuse after a women reported him attempting to "digitally penetrate" her while she slept on-board a flight.

The woman claimed she fell asleep on the plane and awoke "to a hand in her trousers and noticed that her trousers and shirt were unbuttoned", according to the criminal complaint. Ramamoorthy also indicated that he partially unzipped her trousers and inserted his finger, and may have unsuccessfully attempted to put his finger in her vagina.

The woman has accused 34-year-old Prabhu Ramamoorthy of shoving his fingers inside her trousers "and vigorously moving them". She said he stopped when she woke up. This Incident Happened on 3rd January in Spirit Airlines flight from Las Vegas to Detroit.Ramamoorthy has worked as a project manager in Metro Detroit for more than two years. Ramamoorthy was arrested as soon as the flight landed.

Earlier, Ramamoorthy denied all the allegations and claimed he was in "deep sleep" at the time of the incident.

An Indian national travelling in the USA with his wife was arrested onboard a flight in MI on Thursday, for sexually assaulting a woman, reported The Washington Post.

He ultimately admitted to unzipping her trousers and attempting to digitally penetrate her, The Detroit News reports.

Ramamoorthy, before talking with the specialist, gave a composed explanation that he was in "profound rest", that the woman nodded off on his knees and that he is "not certain where (he) kept the hand on her".

After the man was taken by Federal Bureau of Investigation agents, he stated that he "might have undone [the woman's] bra while playing with it, and that he had cupped her [clothed] breast", the complaint added.

Ramamoorthy, who is from India, appeared Wednesday afternoon in U.S. District Court in Detroit for an arraignment hearing, WDIV reports.

The 22-year-old women is alleging she was awoken by the man attempting to shove his fingers into her vagina.

Ramamoorthy and his wife are living on a temporary visa, thereby disqualifying the latter as suitable custodian, according to federal prosecutor, Amanda Jawad.

A spokesman with Spirit Airlines said in an email that it is coordinating with law implementation.
