7 things we learned from ESPN's report on Patriots' rift

Just in time for the National Football League playoffs, ESPN has dropped a story about the possible end of the New England Patriots dynasty.

Guerrero said he has "never tried to create divisiveness or conflict", but that is the light he has been painted in of late, particularly in ESPN's story Friday that pinned Brady's guru as a source of tension between the quarterback and Belichick.

The report, authored by Seth Wickersham, claims a viral sideline outburst in last month's game against the Buffalo Bills is the result of months of frustration. I am grateful to Robert Kraft and his coaches and staff.

"I have a lot of conversations with him", Brady said.

It sure seems like Brady will play in a Patriots uniform through the end of his National Football League career, and based on his absurd longevity, it would be tough to pinpoint when his playing days could be over. The Brady/Guerrero faction is portrayed as so displeased with Garoppolo's presence on the team (due to the suggestion that his drafting was a preparation for Brady's imminent departure) that he was locked out of the TB12 wellness facility after an injury. "He couldn't believe it, Garoppolo told the staffers, and that night ended up visiting team trainers instead". The Patriots coach offered to trade quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo for a mere second-round pick, arguably much less than the quarterback's actual trade value. As a forward-thinking head coach, Belichick is planning out what the team will do years down the line, which is part of the reason he has been so successful with New England. No. 3, going to NY would mean Belichick would no longer have complete control of the personnel of his organization, as the Giants just hired Dave Gettleman as their general manager, although Myers says the two would get along well.

All of this leads into the postseason. A team with as great a quarterback and a coach as the Patriots have are not likely to completely implode because of a story that digs behind the scenes of stories that have been floating out there all season long.

The Patriots are off this weekend and will play the lowest remaining seed in their playoff opener at Gillette Stadium next weekend.
