Jon Gruden to be named coach of Oakland Raiders

Jon Gruden to be named coach of Oakland Raiders

Raiders are giving new head coach Jon Gruden a 10-year contract, the longest coaching deal in National Football League history, sources tell ESPN. Overall, Gruden is 95-81 in 11 seasons.

But there has been mostly a run of losing seasons under nine coaches as only the Cleveland Browns had lost more games during Gruden's 16-year absence than the Raiders.

Jon Gruden looks to be officially coming back to the Oakland Raiders, according to reports.

Steve Corkran first reported the news, saying the Raiders are planning a "splashy" press conference for the former Oakland head coach. The person spoke on condition of anonymity Friday because the team has made no formal announcement.

Gruden, who coached Oakland from 1998 to 2001 and has been working as an ESPN analyst, is returning to the Raiders to replace Jack Del Rio, who was sacked after the regular-season finale on Sunday.

"I'm in Kansas City freezing my ass off".

The Raiders have not identified their candidates for the head-coaching job. He has not coached since his seventh and final season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2008.

The Raiders gave Gruden a ten-year, $100 million contract.

Also joining Gruden's staff will be Dallas' Rich Bisaccia as special teams coordinator.

Gruden posted a 38-26 record with Oakland from 1998-2001, guiding the team to a pair of playoff berths and the AFC Championship game in his last two seasons.

The Raiders will still be in Oakland for the upcoming season before their eventual move to Las Vegas. He was traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after the 2001 season and led them to the Super Bowl, beating the Raiders 48-21.

"We believe the Rooney Rule was complied with". "We'll see what decision they make". The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the Raiders were not releasing the names of candidates. Shell went 2-14 that season and was sacked after one year.
