MSU's Harlon Barnett taking new job at Florida State

MSU's Harlon Barnett taking new job at Florida State

The post-game interview after Florida State defeated Southern Mississippi in the Independence Bowl.

Michigan State co-defensive coordinator Harlon Barnett will reportedly be named Florida State's new defensive coordinator, according to Bruce Feldman of Fox Sports. Barnett, Michigan State's co-defensive coordinator, has spent the last 11 seasons as an assistant with the Spartans. The Spartans' head coach was Campbell's defensive backs coach when he played cornerback from 1996-99. He was a graduate assistant at LSU and made a coaching stop at Cincinnati before joining Michigan State's staff ahead of the 2007 season. He has produced six defensive back draft picks in that span with two first round picks.

Barnett is a Michigan State alumnus, and had a seven-year National Football League career as a safety with the Cleveland Browns, New England Patriots, and Minnesota Vikings. Barnett has worked for MSU coach Mark Dantonio since 2004.

However, it appears Barnett is one of the most respected coaches in the country and the 'Noles got him for a steal at almost one million dollars per year.

He is known as an excellent defensive backs coach that is well respected in the coaching industry.

If Barnett does indeed join, it will be a big position filled for Taggart's defensive staff at Florida State.

MLive reported Taggart hired U-M tackles and tight ends coach Greg Frey on Thursday as the Seminoles' offensive line coach.
