Browns Hire Eliot Wolf As Assistant GM

Browns Hire Eliot Wolf As Assistant GM

Dorsey spent 21 years in Green Bay's front office, while new vice president in the personnel department, Alonzo Highsmith, also spent time in Green Bay.

The son of former Packers general manager Ron Wolf, Eliot Wolf arrives in Cleveland after a 14-year stint in Green Bay, where he most recently served as the team's director of football operations.

The 35-year old Wolf hoped to be named the Packers new GM after Ted Thompson stepped aside but the team promoted Brian Gutekunst instead.

Per previous reports, Wolf signed a four-year deal with the Browns, the same length of the contract Dorsey signed last month. Like Dorsey, Highsmith is a former player who went into scouting with the Packers. Dorsey and friends will be tasked with correcting that positional weakness right away.

The younger Wolf, who reportedly had a job opportunity in Oakland with former Packers executive and current general manager Reggie McKenzie, had been the director of football operations in Green Bay since 2016.

Highsmith, meanwhile, spent 19 years in the Packers' personnel department. He has considerable experience as he also worked in the roles of director of player personnel, director of pro personnel, assistant director of player personnel, and assistant director of pro personnel. All three worked under Dorsey during his time with the Chiefs.

Wolf now has the hard task of trying to help turn around the Browns after another pitiful season that saw them become just the second team to finish with an 0-16 record.

The Browns are now setup for the front office to do just that.

Cleveland.com sports columnist Doug Lesmerises thinks it tells us something we should've already known - that the front office is the best-functioning part of the Browns power structure.
