Queen's bra-fitter is stripped of royal title

Queen's bra-fitter is stripped of royal title

Rigby & Peller, the official lingerie supplier to the Queen, lost the prestigious title after the brand's former owner wrote a book which included details about fitting Her Majesty, as well as working with other members of the Royal Family.

According to Kenton, Princess Diana would reportedly take home "posters showing models in lingerie and swimwear to give to princes William and Harry to display in their Eton studies", The Daily Telegraph reports.

June Kenton, 82, who is still on the board of the company, published her memoirs entitled "Storm in a D-Cup" a year ago but said there was "nothing" in it that should have caused offence to the royals.

June Kenton also offered intimate details about fittings with Princess Diana, the Queen Mother and Princess Margaret.

Buckingham Palace has refused to be drawn into the matter, insisting it did not "comment on individual companies".

June Kenton and her husband Harold bought Rigby & Peller, then an independent shop on London's South Molton Street, for £20,000 in 1982.

She did however stay on the firm's board and continued to fit the Queen's bras at Buckingham Palace. "In respect of Royal Warrants, we never comment on individual companies", a palace statement reads.

Describing herself as "the UK's leading boobologist" in one account to help promote the book, she noted that "even the grandest ladies need to be well-supported" and described giving the half-dressed monarch a first bra fitting.

"I only ever said I went there [to Buckingham Palace], not what happened", the BBC quoted her as saying. "I just think the world of them". She even sent Buckingham Palace a copy when the book was published past year. She was surprised at the response as, in her mind, "The book doesn't contain anything naughty".

But who is June Kenton and why has Rigby & Peller lost its royal title?

She also told how the Queen Mother once said that she "pretends to listen" to Princess Margaret's choice of hats when her milliner came for fittings but that "once she has gone, I order what I want". While a palace spokesperson said that the reason was because of "significant decline in the trading relationship" between the Duke of Edinburgh and the iconic store, it was rumoured that the royal was angered by allegations made by owner Mohamed al Fayed who claimed that the monarchy has caused the 1997 Paris auto crash that killed Diana, Princess of Wales and his son, Dodi.
