How to check if Apple is reducing the performance of your iPhone

How to check if Apple is reducing the performance of your iPhone

Along with an apology, Apple said it would replace the battery on any model of the iPhone 6 or later for just $29. Apple says it does this not to encourage customers to upgrade, but rather to preserve battery power.

That is because an estimated 77% of iPhone owners have an iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, 7, 7 Plus, or SE, according to Mark Moskowitz, an analyst at Barclays.

Days after Apple admitted it intentionally slowed down older handsets, it was hit with multiple class-action lawsuits, after angry users alleged Apple "interfered" with users' handsets without their consent. The bank feels that once an iPhone user gets a nice new battery in their phone they will discover that the older models are just as good as the new ones and not bother to upgrade.

Apple and its slow old iPhones, it's getting boring over the time. So how can you tell how your battery's doing and if Apple's been throttling your service?

iPhone X is on the top due to its face ID, impressive display, new interaction methods and solid performance. Unfortunately, at $29 a pop instead of $79, it's doubtful Apple is coming out ahead.

In an attempt to get back on the good side of consumers, Apple announced it would offer a $50 discount on all battery replacements for iPhone 6 or later. Washington Trust Bank now owns 84,017 shares of the iPhone maker's stock valued at $14,218,000 after buying an additional 1,689 shares during the period.

Apple shares rose 0.6 per cent to US$173.28 in early afternoon trading in NY.

According to Apple, the lithium-ion batteries on which the iPhones run, slow down after a certain period of time. Depending on model mix, Barclays estimates that represents roughly $10 billion in lost revenue.

"We've been hearing feedback from our customers about the way we handle performance for iPhones with older batteries and how we have communicated that process".

It should be remembered that the iPhone is Apple's principle cash cow.

The company also plans to issue an iOS update early this year that will provide users with details of the health of their iPhone battery, whether it's affecting performance and whether a battery replacement would help performance. "The company's stock rose nearly 50 percent a year ago, largely on hopes for a "super cycle" with the new iPhone X and 8, where a large number of users upgrade". "Maybe this will serve as a positive lesson to Apple about the value of openness and transparency - things it has long lacked".

It was only when benchmark results began to suggest that Apple was throttling older devices - something that's been a widespread urban legend for some years now - that the company was forced to explain itself.
