Jeremy Corbyn says Labour doesn't support a second Brexit vote

Jeremy Corbyn says Labour doesn't support a second Brexit vote

"But, at the moment, and as things now stand, we proceed in good faith, we do as we are instructed and we are leaving the European Union".

The EU's guidelines on transitional arrangements say that existing rules and regulations would remain the same during any transition period, as the United Kingdom was still a member state. So I don't quite understand why she [Nicola Sturgeon] would keep saying join the Single Market, when leaving the European Union means you leave the Single Market.

"We know UK Government plans to drag Scotland and the UK out of the single market and customs union would destroy hundreds of thousands of jobs, and cause lasting damage to the incomes, livelihoods, and living standards of millions of people across the country".

Both Labour and the Conservatives have said the 2016 vote to leave the European Union should be honoured.

And last week former UKIP leader Nigel Farage said a second vote might be needed to end the "whinging and whining" of anti-Brexit campaigners.

Mr Corbyn claimed a former Prime Minister had told him they could not define the special relationship. Streeting will say: "The fudge that got us through the general election won't get us through 2018".

"We have said that we must respect the result of the referendum which means that we have to leave, but we have to look after the economy which, in my view, means that we don't go very far".

Conservative deputy chairman James Cleverly said the two Labour politicians had "failed to rule out a second referendum".

Jeremy Corbyn has said Labour will vote against the European Union withdrawal bill at its third reading because of concern about a lack of protection for parliamentary democracy and human rights.

"This amendment is a significant step in the fight against Brexit, demonstrating the increased willingness of parties to work together formally rather than just behind the scenes", Lib Dem leader Sir Vince Cable said.

Corbyn said he would direct his MPs to vote against the bill when it returned to the House of Commons.

Labour has said it wants the "closest possible ties" with European Union markets after Brexit.

Mr Corbyn expressed concern about some parts of the single market set-up. Do we have a trading relationship with Europe which is tariff free, which is based on access to that market and access of Europe to our market, yes.

"There are also aspects of the single market one wants to think about such as the restrictions on state aid to industry, which is something that I would wish to challenge".

The SNP, Liberal Democrats, Plaid Cymru and the Greens will collectively back an amendment to the EU Withdrawal Bill this week.

And divisions are set to continue as Mr Corbyn's comments were met with criticism by several MPs.

The remarks come after President Trump cancelled a planned visit to London to open the new US Embassy. I think there are many important relationships.

He added: "The biggest disappointment of Donald Trump is - apart from his endless offensive remarks about women, about minorities and about different faiths - is his failure to support global institutions like the United Nations and like Unesco".
