Up to four inches of snow expected in parts of Northern Ireland

Widespread heavy snow is forecast for the Borders throughout tomorrow, with more likely to follow the day after.

The warnings, which cover Central Scotland, Tayside, Fife, southern Scotland, Lothian and Borders, Strathclyde and Northern Ireland, are valid from 3pm on Tuesday until 8am on Wednesday.

'Some roads and pavements will turn icy, with an increased likelihood of some accidents and injuries'.

There is a yellow warning for snow in force for the county between 4am on Tuesday and 11am on Wednesday which states: "2-6 cm of snow may fall in places, especially on higher ground above 100-200m".

"The warning is talking about isolated, more exposed areas seeing 80mph, but more widely 60 to 70mph".

Met Eireann says we will have continued normal weather with sun and rain in the coming days, but that things will take a turn for the worse on Wednesday.

Today's snow warning has been raised to amber by the Met Office, with up to 10cm falling at low levels.

The State forecaster has four weather warnings in place as Storm Fionn approaches bringing mean wind speeds of 65km/h to 80km/h to Atlantic coast counties and severe gusts of up to 120 km/h.

A Met Office spokesperson said: "Very strong winds will affect parts of the United Kingdom tonight and into Thursday".

"There will be even more strong winds and heavy rain". Also, damage to roads and properties is also a possibility. Large waves may affect the Western Coast due to which beach material may be thrown on the sea front.

A vehicle was pictured half-submerged in water in Welney, Norfolk, before the Environment Agency warned of flooding on the other side of the country the following day.

A warning for strong winds, gales and potentially stormy weather midweek with more snow.

The day started off brightly in Bournemouth and sunny spells are likely to continue throughout the late morning and early afternoon, with highs of 7°C.
