Haley out as Steelers offensive coordinator

Haley out as Steelers offensive coordinator

Haley, to the delight of more than a few Steelers fans, will not be brought back, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Technically, it's not a firing as Haley's contract expired after the season, bringing his successful six-year run with the team to an end.

The Steelers finished the season third in total offense and Roethlisberger had a great second half after a slow start.

It is way too early to say who should be Pittsburgh's next coach if Tomlin is let go.

Speculation that Haley would not be retained gained steam after the loss to the Jaguars when coach Mike Tomlin wouldn't confirm that Haley would return in the same role. He worked for the Steelers for five years.

Tomlin said the hope is the setback strengthens the team as it moves forward and tries to win a seventh Lombardi trophy.

The Jacksonville Jaguars shocked the Pittsburgh Steelers last week at Heinz Field to advance to the AFC Championship Game. Pittsburgh's meeting with New England was still two weeks away, but Tomlin made no secret of the fact he was looking ahead to that game and beyond. Bell said on Sunday his hope is to remain in Pittsburgh. While some got a kick out of the gag, even calling it hilarious, others were so salty they might need some ketchup.

It reportedly comes in the form of quarterbacks coach Randy Fichtner being promoted to offensive coordinator. The same goes for All-Pro receiver Antonio Brown, who will enter his ninth National Football League season in 2018.

Twice the Steelers were stopped in fourth down situations against Jacksonville. He hasn't had a losing record and has upheld the teams standards for being a reliable coach.
