'Jersey Shore' star Mike 'The Situation' Sorrentino facing 15 years in jail

TV personality Michael "The Situation" Sorrentino arrives at the 53rd annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, California, US, February 13, 2011.

"Jersey Shore" reality TV star Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino is expected to plead guilty Friday, three weeks before his trial on tax evasion charges was set set to begin.

One of the stars of MTV's hit reality show Jersey Shore has agreed to plead guilty in his federal tax crimes case, prosecutors said in a court filing Wednesday.

The plea hearing is scheduled for Friday.

Both men are also facing a statutory maximum sentence of five years in prison on the conspiracy count and three years in prison for each count of aiding in the preparation of false tax returns. It was not immediately clear which charges they will plead guilty to.

Marc's lawyer declined to comment while The Situation's lawyer didn't get back to us.

Now 35, Michael Sorrentino popularized the phrase "gym, tan, laundry" to describe the pre-party routine of cast members.

The U.S. Attorney's Office and the Justice Department's Tax Division had accused the brothers, who grew up in Manalapan, of underreporting income from businesses they created to cash in on Michael Sorrentino's overnight fame from the MTV show, which ran from 2009 to 2012 and had a 30-minute "reunion special" on E! in August.

After the brothers were served with grand jury subpoenas seeking records from their companies, prosecutors allege Marc Sorrentino falsified records to reclassify taxable payments to himself as nontaxable payments and business deductions.

In 2014, the Sorrentino brothers pleaded not guilty to charges they filed bogus tax returns on almost $9 million and claimed millions in personal expenses as business expenses.
