Rohit Sharma Scores Joint Fastest Century in T20Is

Captain Rohit Sharma scored the joint-fastest Twenty20 century as India beat Sri Lanka by 88 runs to win their three-match series with a game to spare on Friday.

With the help of Rohit's brilliant innings, India scored 260 runs in 20 overs.

Upul Tharanga and Kusal Perera came together and credit to them were able to keep Sri Lanka in the game for some time. Their bowlers haven't threatened to take wickets and with another placid track expected, it's only going to add to their miseries.

Rohit Sharma created history (again) today (December 22) becoming the first Indian to score two tons in T20 Internationals. This is now also the highest individual score by an Indian in the shortest format of worldwide cricket.

At Indore's Holkar Stadium dew would be a factor just like the last time and the team winning toss would most likely be bowling first. Asela Gunaratane went for 21 in his opening over, which started with Rohit slapping a loopy one over midwicket to reach his fifty in 23 balls, before sending the next ball over midwicket for a big six to bring up the century opening stand. The previous fastest T20I century among India batsmen was 46 balls by KL Rahul, against West Indies in Lauderhill past year.

The elegant opening batsman took just 35 balls to reach three figures for the second time in the shortest format at worldwide level, matching a record set by South Africa's David Miller against Bangladesh in October. Both Rohit and Rahul hit a six each off him.

India have already wrapped up the T20 series after thrashing Lankans in the first two T20I matches.

The win has given India a 2-0 unassailable lead in the series with Rohit claiming the man of the match award. They kicked off the 261-run chase in fine fashion at Indore, before they lost their way.

Rohit Sharma hit 10 sixes in his knock of 118 making it the highest for an Indian batsman in T20I innings overtaking Yuvraj Singh's record of seven sixes vs England in 2007. He has been struggling to find form all series, last playing decently against Pakistan for the World XI side he was a part of.

The live broadcast of the 3rd T20I between India and Sri Lanka will start at 6:30PM PST.
