WhatsApp launches standalone WhatsApp Business app for Android

WhatsApp launches standalone WhatsApp Business app for Android

WhatsApp Business will be a separate entity than its regular instant messaging app.

WhatsApp might roll out the enterprise-grade version of WhatsApp Business for large businesses as well in future.

WhatsApp Business can be downloaded directly from Google Play and must be installed on a smartphone just like the standard version. Unfortunately, India is not one of them.

As of today, small business owners in the US, UK, Italy, Indonesia, and Mexico can take the app for a spin by downloading the app and registering a new business account. The message can even contain instructions or answers to frequently asked questions. They can also create an automated greeting message. This app will help small business in connecting with their customers via WhatsApp.

WhatsApp Business app released Thursday in select markets including Indonesia, Italy, Mexico, the United Kingdom and the US, with more countries coming soon.

A Business account with a grey checkmark badge in its profile, meanwhile, has been confirmed to be using a phone number that matches the phone number of the business it claims to be owned and operated by. This is possible because the business personnel will have their respective account listed as a Business Account.

LANDLINE/FIXED NUMBER SUPPORT: You can use WhatsApp Business with a landline (or fixed) phone number and your customers can message you on that number. It's also compatible with WhatsApp Web, so you can check your messages and respond via a desktop browser.

Another important point is that users will continue to have full control over the messages they receive, with the ability to block any number, including businesses, as well as report spam.

WhatsApp Business will mark your account as a Business Account once you're logged in. Presumably, they'll be built on top of the current WhatsApp Business core product.

The current set of features on WhatsApp Business will remain free in the long term. After testing several business features over the last years, WhatsApp has finally released its app, especially for businesses.

The company will eventually adopt a freemium model, but won't take away any of the existing features.
