Female Student Shot, Suspect in Custody in Italy High School Shooting

Ellis County Sheriff's Office personnel park outside a high school in Italy, Tex., after an active shooter incident Monday. He would not say whether the boy has had disciplinary issues at the school. The schools are still locked down.

Cassie Shook tells The Associated Press that she was just arriving at Italy High School when the shooting happened Monday morning. Neither knew the girl's condition, and Parkland spokeswoman April Foran said she could give no information.

He added that counselors will be provided on campus to speak with students.

A text message from the school district's superintendent to parents indicated one person was wounded during the shooting, who was rushed to a hospital, according to ABC affiliate WFAA.

"This is a trying time for our community and our school", Joffre said.

Police say the unnamed suspect is a student at the school and it is unclear whether he targeted the 15-year-old girl.

Both the high school and Stafford Elementary School were put under lock down.

Italy is about 45 miles south of Dallas. Assisting at the scene was Italy Police Department, Ellis County Sheriff's Office, Hill County Sheriff's Office, Department of Public, and the Texas Rangers.

Other details were not released.
