Megyn Kelly bringing Fox News to NBC? Revives Jane Fonda critique

Megyn Kelly bringing Fox News to NBC? Revives Jane Fonda critique

Kotb's staff reportedly got extracted revenge by making fun of Kelly's highly-publicized vehicle crash interview with Jane Fonda back in September of 2017.

Jane Fonda in Beverly Hills, Calif., on December 3, 2017, left, and Megyn Kelly on set of her show, "Megyn Kelly Today" in NY on Sept, 21, 2017. The Hollywood legend shut down Kelly after being asked about her plastic surgery, later explaining that it was "the wrong time and place to ask that question".

"Nor am I in the market for a lesson from Jane Fonda on what is and is not appropriate", Kelly said.

Fonda told Variety that she wasn't "upset" by the question Kelly asked but was "stunned" because she thought it was inappropriate.

As to whether Fonda would ever appear on Kelly's show again, the actress said yes, but only "if she comes around and learns her stuff, sure". "However, Fonda was at it again last week, including right here on NBC, and then again elsewhere".

From there, Kelly spun a yarn about how Fonda had an obligation to answer her questions about plastic surgery because she herself speaks about aging in public.

"For years she has spoke about the joy of giving a cultural face to older women", Kelly said.

During the segment, Kelly showed several pieces of video from other news programs in which Fonda has discussed her cosmetic surgery. Many of our veterans still call her Hanoi Jane thanks to her radio broadcasts, which attempted to shame American troops.

Kelly spent the next minute recounting Fonda's alleged sins during the Vietnam War, invoking her nickname "Hanoi Jane" and concluded by saying, "By the way, she still says she's not proud of America".

"We really want to talk about that now?"

That brush-back was featured among the top exhibits as TV critics everywhere wrote about Kelly's troubles with ratings and a new format upon launching "Megyn Kelly Today" after a long career at Fox News.

On Monday, Kelly described that interview as one in which she gave Fonda the chance "to empower other women" on the subject of plastic surgery, "and she rejected it". She posed on an anti-aircraft gun used to shoot down our American pilots.

"It showed that she's not that good an interviewer", Fonda said. Even she had to apologize years later for that gun picture, but not for the rest of it.

Kelly then rolled a series of clips showing Fonda openly discussing the benefits of plastic surgery on other talk shows.

Kelly went on to insist she simply wanted to have an "honest discussion" with the star about ageing gracefully, and she has "no regrets" about broaching the topic live on air.

Representatives for Fonda did not immediately respond to The Times' request for comment Monday morning.
