Real Madrid star Sergio Ramos gives big update on Zinedine Zidane

Real Madrid star Sergio Ramos gives big update on Zinedine Zidane

Leganes overturned a 1-0 first-leg loss to progress to the semi-finals of the Copa with a 2-1 win at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday, although Ronaldo was left out of the squad.

Speaking in the Bernabeu mixed zone after the latest setback in a very hard 2017-18, Ramos said now was a time for everybody at the club to stick together, and recalled that too many changes in past seasons had not gone well. Another editorial is headlined: "Zidane is under more pressure than ever before".

"This debacle, which shows up the way the squad and Zidane approached a competition that had become a priority, was a tragedy that leaves Madrid in an agonising, nearly anguished, situation".

Zidane conceded their Champions League last 16 tie against PSG in two weeks time is now a defining game in his managerial tenure.

But this season the club are struggling domestically with only ten wins from their 19 league matches so far.

Real Madrid have won only half of their 18 home matches in all competitions.

"We will look at the situation and I will first because I am to blame".

Following Real's humiliation, Zidane said: "It's a fiasco".

"I am angry with myself, not with my players", he said. "I am responsible for this, I'm the coach... today is a failure for me".

With this latest development, the Champions League is now the only "realistic" avenue for a silverware for Real Madrid this season.

"I always take responsibility for what I do, and this is my worst night. I'm the coach. I'm the one who has to find the solutions". "I will continue to fight, to work, to battle and to find the things the team needs." stated the 1998 World Cup victor.

Earlier this month Zinedine Zidane marked his two year anniversary in charge of Real Madrid.

"To fall in the Copa del Rey is a failure", he told Marca. Football moves on and you must go through bad moments, and learn from them.

"We are all responsible and we hope this serves some use in the future".

But winning a third successive Champions League trophy will be a tough ask, given the standard of Real's next opponents in the competition: Paris Saint-Germain, a team that - with Neymar, Edinson Cavani, and Kylian Mbappé - is in swashbuckling form.

The Portugal global left the field with blood streaming down his face after being caught by defender Fabian Schar as he dived to head home Real's sixth goal at the Bernabeu Stadium.
