Smart returns to Boston for tests on hand

Smart returns to Boston for tests on hand

At first, head coach Brad Stevens told reporters that Smart cut his hand at the hotel and that the team didn't know exactly what happened.

"I want to take this time to express my sincerest apologies to my teammates, coaches, and most of all the fantastic Boston Celtics fans".

Marcus Smart is projected to miss two weeks due to a hand laceration suffered at the team hotel in Los Angeles, the Boston Celtics announced Friday.

Smart was returned to Boston for evaluation, where the two-week timetable for a return was set. "That's something that we'll talk about more with him and go from there". Smart said, "I'm embarrassed and disappointed in my actions" as he apologized to fans. "I feel like I let all y'all down", he tweeted.

Smart says he will learn from it and come back better.

Smart's injury had been a mystery prior to his message Friday. "I love y'all and I truly appreciate all the support". The Celtics have two games left on their West Coast road trip against the Golden State Warriors on Saturday and Denver Nuggets on Monday. He sat out the Clippers game with the injury, and it may be worth noting that he committed a bad play to lose the game the night before against the LA Lakers.

Smart is averaging 10 points and a career-high 4.7 assists this season, his fourth in Boston.
