Justice Dept.: 'Reckless' to release Nunes memo without review

Justice Dept.: 'Reckless' to release Nunes memo without review

It is apparent that some representatives in the House that have back burning issues pertaining to the content of the memo and have a strong desire that the American public should be aware to observe it. And though he has not yet seen the House GOP's memo, he surmised he soon would.

"I think the memo shows us the Mueller probe is rotten to the core, built on a rotten foundation", Gaetz said.

And if they repeat it often enough through their formidable propaganda machine, they'll get just enough people to believe it to hold off impeachment, no matter what Trump turns out to have done.

According to CNN, three Republican House Committee chairmen met Sunday about coordination of steps to declassify and release the Nunes memo, and at least some of its substantiating source reports. "But he never fully recused himself and after the Republican-controlled House Ethics Committee in December cleared him of disclosing classified information, he raised his profile again".

Still, the Nunes memo has generated high interest across the Capitol given the seriousness of the allegations, and prominent senators have shown an interest in viewing the document.

At this point, the only way to know whether what's in the memo actually reveals political bias, like Nunes is suggesting, is for the memo to be released with the appropriate information redacted.

"This stuff all relates to documents and discussions that are classified", he said.

If you haven't been following this story, some of the strands that have absolutely consumed the right will sound unfamiliar and even ludicrous. "I'd be glad to look at whatever the House has". Chuck Grassley, the Senate Judiciary Committee chairman.

"They're going to get it out", he told reporters, noting that the process could take some time. But if he does, the full House would then be able to vote for its release.

According to reports, the memo alleges the Federal Bureau of Investigation misled a FISA court judge in seeking a surveillance warrant for Trump campaign adviser Carter Page by not informing the judge that one of its sources - ex-British spy Christopher Steele, author of the so-called dossier - was being paid by Democrats.

And Democrats accuse Nunes of trying to derail special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russia's influence in the 2016 election and whether it worked with the Trump campaign. There are extremely good reasons for Nunes and his staff to create a summary, and very easy ways for Democrats to remedy anything that is arguably misleading, so the "one-sidedness" objection appears overblown. "Any delay in the release of the memo should only be to protect sensitive sources and methods of the Intelligence Community".

"The documents that supposedly inform these talking points are highly classified", the panel's Democrats said in a joint statement. "This is by design".

Schiff's Senate counterpart did not mince words either when asked about the memo on Wednesday.

Nunes' deliberate interference with a criminal and counterintelligence investigation, potential release of classified information and attempts to maliciously discredit the FBI should not be tolerated - especially coming from the Intelligence Committee chairman, who is supposed to be above partisan politics and is entrusted with the nation's secrets.

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), the ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee, said he is planning on writing his own memo, which will supposedly set the record straight on the Nunes memo.
