Kendrick Lamar is Set to Open 2018 Grammys with Dave Chappelle

Kendrick Lamar is Set to Open 2018 Grammys with Dave Chappelle

The 60th Grammy Awards take place on 28 January 2018 at Madison Square Gardens in New York City.

So who is in the running for a golden gramophone trophy and what can we expect on the big night?

But fans shouldn't be expecting the mystery performance to be a duet between the evening's most nominated artist, Jay-Z, and his wife Beyonce, who will be returning to the spotlight following the birth of twins Rumi and Sir in June. This will be the second year for James Corden to host the awards and is sure to include some laughs along with a lot of great performances.

Is there anything new about this year's show?

The main Grammys telecast tends to put more emphasis on the medley performances than the awards. SZA, Khalid, Childish Gambino, and No I.D. have an impressive five nods each.

When nominations were announced in November, Jay-Z led the field with 8 nominations (Beyoncé led nominations last year with 9), including Record of the Year ("The Story Of O.J."), Song of the Year ("4:44") and Album of the Year ("4:44").

Since the ceremony has moved from Los Angeles to NY this year, the pretelecast show - where the bulk of gilded gramophones will be handed out - will take place at the Theater at Madison Square Garden from 12 to 3 p.m.

The record was hailed the best of 1958 at the first annual Grammy awards Monday night.

In addition to vibrant performances and a glamorous red carpet, the award show ceremony may also reflect the somber attitude Hollywood has faced since the beginning of the "Weinstein effect" and the "Me Too" movement.

Little Big Town and Chris Stapleton have the most nominations as far as country artists go with three nominations each.

The Daily Bruin's Jerome Davis predicts the results of some of the most hotly contested and refreshingly diverse Grammy nominations, ranging from Record of the Year to Best R&B Song. The start time is 7:30 p.m. ET and they're expected to end at 11 p.m. ET.

Song of the Year: A song award.

In this op-ed, Lauren Rearick discusses the Grammys 2018 nominees and how we need to give women of color the respect they deserve.
