Jason Day, Alex Noren face off in Monday playoff at Farmers

Jason Day has broken his 20-month winless drought on the US PGA Tour, claiming the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines in a sudden-death play-off over Alex Noren. Palmer was eliminated on the first playoff hole, but four more holes after that was not enough to separate Day and Noren. He picked up where he left off on Monday, knocking another wedge to a couple of feet after Noren had splashed his second shot in the water. Playing out of the third-to-last threesome, he hit six (of 14) fairways and 10 greens in regulation, gaining 3.014 tee-to-green. Day had the movable weights split in the middle track of the sole, a neutral setting. He has won five times on the European Tour since the summer of 2016. "We both played some pretty good golf, especially down 18 going back and forth, back and forth, which is good entertainment for the fans".

Day joked that they could have continued to play, that all that was needed was some vehicle headlights along the fairway.

With Day front and centre over the final 18 holes at Torrey Pines Marc Leishman's fourth top-10 in 10 starts at the California venue flew under the radar as the Victorian continues to show excellent form heading into 2018. "I'll try to get some rest and play all day tomorrow if I need to get a win".

Wood finished tied for 23rd at three-under par. He had four birdies and four bogies on Sunday.

"This is something new for me to be able to go through a playoff and come back the next day".

New Zealand's Danny Lee and Australian Open victor Cameron Davis both found the going tough on Sunday as strong breezes made scoring hard. I really wanted to shoot something around 65.

Overall, Woods said he was encouraged with his performance in the tournament.

"To win would be very, very big for my confidence", he said. "I fought hard for these scores".
