MLS Expected to Award David Beckham Miami Expansion Franchise at Last

David Beckham can finally see the goal in Miami, and his Major League Soccer team is about to be born.

The 9 a.m. PR announcement from Miami's Adrienne Arsht Center will be streamed live on MLSsoccer.com, FoxSoccer.com and aired live on Univision Deportes Network (UDN) in the US; it will be streamed live on TVA Sports in Canada. "Ready for glory", before waiting in line to be allowed inside the Knight Concert Hall at the Adrienne Arsht Center.

The ex-Manchester United, Real Madrid, LA Galaxy, AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain player is due to host a press conference in the Florida city alongside MLS Commissioner Don Garber.

Garber added that the league was "committed to bringing Miami the elite-level soccer team, stadium and fan experience it richly deserves".

After four years of trials and tribulations, the 42-year-old father of four will now have the opportunity to move to the next stage of his soccer life.

And at the launch Beckham insisted he wanted to make the locals of Miami proud.

In a video message Victoria Beckham said: "I look forward to spending much more time in Miami as a family". The Miami Fusion played from 1998-2001, folding because of poor attendance.

The as yet unnamed team is set to play at a 25,000-seat stadium in the city's Overton neighbourhood.

Beckham has spent the last four years trying to bring MLS back to South Florida.

"It has definitely been years in the making", said Beckham.

The 42-year-old, who began his career at Manchester United and also played for Real Madrid, AC Milan and Paris St Germain, spent nearly six years with Galaxy.

"Never give in and never give up and that's what I did with this...."

"We plan to be in the league in 2020, we hope to have the stadium built by 2021, so there is a lot of work to be done before we think about the players that we want to bring in", he said. "What a great moment".

"If it wasn't for David, Jorge, and Jose we wouldn't be here today", he reiterated.

Before the Mas brothers -the top executives at Miami-based Mastec company and Beckham's first local partners - joined the stadium venture in December, the partnership had pursued a stadium site on private and public land next to Marlins Park.

The name of the team, logo, and when it will debut in MLS will be announced sometime in the future.
