Arizona congressman: Arrest and deport any 'illegal aliens' attending SOTU

Arizona congressman: Arrest and deport any 'illegal aliens' attending SOTU

Last week, ABC News revealed that at least 24 Democrats are expected to bring illegal aliens as their guests to Trump's SOTU address, but Gosar says Capitol Police and Sessions should use the opportunity to enforce the Rule of Law.

Now a spokeswoman for the immigrants' rights organization FWD.us, Dhalla said she hopes Trump's speech will address a permanent solution for Dreamers and come back to previous comments he's made about wanting to deal with the young immigrant community "with heart". Gosar showed his support for having them deported.

On his House of Representatives biography page, Gosar lists "fighting illegal immigration and securing the border" as one of his top priorities. Their guests will include immigrants who are among the almost 700,000 people who received protection from deportation under the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, also known as "DACA". "Any illegal aliens attempting to go through security, under any pretext of invitation or otherwise, should be arrested and deported", GOP Rep. Paul Gosar wrote on Twitter.

Capitol Police and the Justice Department did not return Newsweek's requests for comment.

Dozens of Dreamers have been invited by Democratic members of Congress to attend Tuesday's speech.

They said they weren't going to be scared off by the congressman.

Trump, who has called on Congress to pass legislation to deal with DREAMers, has proposed a path to citizenship for these people in return for border wall funding and other immigration measures. "It shows a really awful notion of what his power is ― or what he thinks it is".

And Sen. Jeff Flake, also an Arizona Republican, responded, "This is why we can't have nice things..." to Gosar's tweet.
