Arsenal youngster Marcus McGuane joins Barcelona

"We would like to thank Marcus for his contribution and wish him well at Barcelona", an Arsenal statement read.

Barcelona's capture of 18-year-old Arsenal midfielder Marcus McGuane this week was part of a five-player signing spree created to prevent their B team being relegated from the Spanish second division.

McGuane came through the Gunners' youth ranks after joining the London club at under-six level.

Rangers were thought to be the front-runners for the youngster.

"McGuane's deal will keep him at Barça for three seasons, plus two option years". The Spanish Giants have not revealed any further details of the agreement with Arsenal but they confirmed that the midfielder will have a €25 Million release clause inserted in his contract. That the player was included in The Guardian's list of top 20 best young players in the Premier League in 2015 is a testament to the same.

The 18-year-old completed his medical and agreed terms today.

His performances caught the eye of first-team manager Arsene Wenger, who selected McGuane for two Europa League matches earlier this season.

Today, McGuane's move to Barcelona was confirmed, as the England Under-19 worldwide has penned a three-and-a-half-year deal with the Catalan giants, and will initially join up with their B side.

"If I get chances to train with the first team, then to do as well as I can".
