Google Assistant Go is now available on Play Store

However, some of the functions that are available in the regular Google Assistant app is unavailable in Google Assistant Go.

As the name suggests, Assistant Go is the lighter version of the Google Assistant, optimised for Android Oreo (Go Edition) smartphones.

Users can make quick phone calls, send text messages, play music, navigate to places, preview upcoming events, weather information and answers to generic questions.

The Google Assistant Go app that is now available on the Play Store is a lightweight version of the Google Assistant which is available on smartphones that run non-Go version of Android. To begin with Google Assistant Go, you just need to touch and hold the Home button or tap the microphone icon on Google Search bar.

Google has already made available other apps from the Android Go initiative in the recent months, including Google Maps Go, Google Go, Gboard Go, and the completely new Files Go app.

A support page by Google that the Google Assistant Go app has some differences over the original Google Assistant version since the app is made to use less storage and data. In India, Google has announced partnerships with Micromax and MediaTek to launch Android Go smartphones. The list of features that aren't available on the lightweight Google Assistant includes reminders, controls for smart home devices, Actions on Google, and Device Actions. Support for more languages will be rolled out soon. Because the app was created to take up less storage and data, Assistant Go does not include reminders, controls for smart home devices, Actions on Google, or Device Actions. App speed was also improved by about 15 percent across the board. These apps will be compatible only with phones running on Android Go or Android Oreo designed for budget phones. The company says that the phones running Android Oreo (Go edition) will hit the shelves in early 2018.
