'Snow, ice and treacherous road conditions' - Met Eireann issues weather warning

'Snow, ice and treacherous road conditions' - Met Eireann issues weather warning

A yellow warning for ice and snow has been issued by the Met Office for the south east, including parts of London, with potential to cause delays on the roads and railways.

In addition, wintry showers may produce a light covering of snow in places by Monday morning.

A Met Office spokesperson said: "A spell of rain, sleet and increasingly snow will move east across the United Kingdom on Monday night and Tuesday, gradually weakening across England and Wales".

They added: "Some icy patches are likely to develop on untreated roads, pavements, and cycle paths, bringing a risk of injuries from slips and falls as well as hard driving conditions".

Met Eireann has issued a snow-ice weather warning for 20 counties, from Monday evening, with some places seeing up to 3cms of snow.

The first warning runs from 8pm on Monday until 3pm on Tuesday.

Those making their way to work and school on Monday and Tuesday are advised to wrap up warm against bitterly cold conditions all day.

It's a similar story for the rest of the week with cool temperatures, wintry showers and fresh breezes all expected - wahey! Minimum temperature -5 °C. It had an average temperature of 8.5°C - well above the long-term average of 6.6°C.

Things don't look to be getting any better later in the week either, as Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to bring sleet and snow with them, while Thursday and Friday coming with the warning of "severe and widespread night frosts that will be sharp and extensive".
