76ers GM: Markelle Fultz might not play this year

Markelle Fultz, the top overall pick in last year's National Basketball Association draft, may not play again this season as he deals with a right shoulder injury and works on his shot.

Videos of Philadelphia 76ers rookie Markelle Fultz taking shots hit social media after numerous team's practices.

The 76ers sent the No. 3 pick and a future first-round pick to the Celtics just to grab Fultz at No. 1, but he has yet to deliver on his high promise.

It has now been almost four months since the No. 1 pick in last year's NBA Draft last took the court, and based on what Sixers president Bryan Colangelo told reporters Friday, he might not be back anytime soon. "I understand that fans want to see his progress, but this is maybe going to [be] a longer process than we all hoped for".

Colangelo said Fultz is "literally retraining his shooting mechanics right now" but is performing well in other areas besides perimeter shooting. "Everything within a certain range, it's attractive", said Colangelo. While Fultz was never an outstanding free throw shooter to begin with, his form was at least normal; when he joined the Sixers, it looked broken and lowered his accuracy even more. Fultz, the first overall pick in last June's National Basketball Association draft, will miss his 48th consecutive game Friday night against the New Orleans Pelicans at the Wells Fargo Center while he relearns how to shoot after rehabbing a shoulder injury.

"This kid's f-king 19", Redick loudly chimed in during a Friday morning shootaround, while reporters had honed in on Fultz to watch him shoot, .

If Fultz was a center, that would not be such a big deal; however, he is a point guard who is supposed to be able to score from any part of the court. "I'm just going through it, and I want to go back out there as quick as I can".

"From what I've seen him do instinctively - drives in the lane, spins, dribbles, rise-up, pull-up". So the 76ers are no stranger to not getting any, or in Fultz's case very little, immediate production from a high draft pick.

"But we're all supportive of him", Redick said. Colangelo also walked away from the 22-minute press conference when asked if there's a timeline on the next update for Fultz, per Bodner.
