Agent drops Josh McDaniels after Colts coaching controversy

Agent drops Josh McDaniels after Colts coaching controversy

Do they have any legal recourse? He didn't watch the championship game or think about the coaching search that night. How does Andrew Luck factor in? One of those questions has been lurking for almost a year now: how healthy is Andrew Luck?

Josh McDaniels made a decision to stay in New England on Tuesday despite reaching an agreement with the Indianapolis Colts to be their next head coach.

"Are you in or out?'" Ballard said Wednesday. I wish you the best of luck.

"There was no persuasion".

Just about everything with the organization is tied to Luck's health, and it doesn't really matter who the coach is if he's not going to make a complete recovery.

He said the two shared a five-minute conversation Tuesday evening as Ballard came out of draft meetings. These reports undoubtedly point toward Belichick preparing McDaniels to be the next head coach of the Patriots.

"It's the mentally tough, gritty people that overcome these things that are successful". We got work to do.

"We've had a list of candidates", Ballard said. [We] had them from the get-go.

The news did not go down well with the Colts as they thought they had sealed the deal and would get McDaniels to lead them into next season. "I'm very proud of the kid, wouldn't want anybody else on the team".

In a Wednesday press conference, Colts general manager Chris Ballard said: "The rivalry (Colts vs. Patriots) is back on".

Ballard wasn't the only one angered by McDaniels, whose agent, Bob LaMonte, chose to quit in the fallout.

"My word is my bond".

As it turns out, Ballard and owner Jim Irsay were wrong in their assessment of and commitment to McDaniels.

The Colts had announced Tuesday that McDaniels agreed to contract terms, but a written agreement was never finalized.

McDaniels has been considered a top-tier head coaching candidate for several years even though his only other coaching stint with the Broncos ended badly.

A year later, McDaniels pulled the same trick, only this time to the Indianapolis Colts and after he had officially accepted to be their next head coach. He also pointed out he won't circle back to any of the coaches they previously interviewed.

"No", Ballard said when asked if he feels betrayed.

Three assistant coaches - Matt Eberflus, Mike Phair and Dave DeGuglielmo - had already been hired in Indy.
