Atlanta Hawks to Release Marco Belinelli to Free Agency

Atlanta Hawks to Release Marco Belinelli to Free Agency

Belinelli, 31, has played for eight different teams during his 11-year National Basketball Association career. Atlanta was unable to trade Belinelli before Thursday's trade deadline, and now it appears he'll be bought out.

Buying out Belinelli will open up minutes for younger players and allow him to join a contending team.

Belinelli provided rock-solid bench scoring for the Hawks, and his per-game average of 11.4 points was actually the 4-highest on a Hawks team that could have issues scoring the basketball. He's an effective shooter with a 37.2 three-point percentage this season. The 31-year-old is shooting 41.1 percent from the field and 37.2 percent from behind the arc, which almost what he averages for his career, at 37.7 percent.

The Warriors drafted Marco Belinelli with the 18th overall pick in the 2007 draft. Heading into Sunday, the Sixers hold the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference with a 28-25 record. Belinelli isn't worth adding in most leagues.

Oh, and we now know how on board Belinelli is on joining the Sixers, giving his best JJ Redick impression on Twitter.
