Man Utd watching Alderweireld contract situation at Tottenham

Man Utd watching Alderweireld contract situation at Tottenham

Premier League rivals Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea are said to have been keeping tabs on the centre-half - and now Real Madrid have entered the race.

Alderweireld has developed in to one of the best centre-backs in Europe since joining Tottenham from Atletico Madrid in 2015 following an impressive season on loan at Southampton.

Alderweireld is now contracted at Spurs until the summer of 2019, which could be extend to 2020 due to a one-year extension option.

Alderweireld has only recently returned after three months out with a hamstring injury, but having started the FA Cup replay win over Newport he has since been left out of the win over Arsenal and the draw at Juventus.

The article says that Manchester United are very much interested in a move to sign Alderweireld because of the ongoing contract situation at White Hart Lane.

Meanwhile, Spurs are looking to offer their manager Mauricio Pochettino a contract extension, as they prepare for an exciting new era in their new White Hart Lane stadium next season.

The same report also claims that Alderweireld's current deal contains a release clause of £25m, but that can only be activated in the 2019 summer transfer window.

Interest from other clubs is also born from the ongoing contract stand-off between the club and Alderweireld, with the defender said to be demanding a huge new wage of around £150,000-a-week, a sum which would smash the current wage structure at the north London club.

The latest to come under the lascivious gaze of others is Toby Alderweireld with Real Madrid among a host of clubs looking at the Belgium global, according to the Daily Mirror.
