Could Fox or ESPN lure Peyton Manning into the broadcast booth?

Could Fox or ESPN lure Peyton Manning into the broadcast booth?

ESPN is considering a complete overhaul of MNF and may even look to replace lead announcer Sean McDonough.

According to Marchand's report, Randy Moss, Matt Hasselbeck, Charles Woodson and Kurt Warner could be candidates to replace Gruden if Manning turns them down. But since retiring two years ago Manning hasn't wanted to become a broadcaster, and hasn't really landed on any post-playing career.

Matt Hasselbeck and Peyton Manning are the favorites to take over for Gruden, yet only Hasselbeck is now employed by the Worldwide Leader.

Manning would likely crush it being a color analyst in the booth, similarly to how Tony Romo emerged on the scene for CBS in 2017. According to a report from the New York Post, the Worldwide Leader plans to "back up the truck" in order to land Manning. Joe Tessitore, Steve Levy and Dave Pasch were three names the Post said could be candidates if ESPN makes a change from McDonough.

Prior to last season, FOX reached out to Manning with the idea of either an in-studio or booth job on the table. His work has been featured on Sports Illustrated, ESPN.com, FOXSports.com, CBSSports.com and many others.

ESPN sees Manning as someone who can live up to the tradition of the Monday night banner, which is why the network is "going all-out", in the words of another source, after Manning. Meanwhile, with FOX taking over the rights to Thursday Night Football, the network is interested in Manning headlining the coverage of the new broadcast team on that network.

Fox wants to hire a Thursday night analyst before filling the play-by-play spot.

Over the course of 17 National Football League seasons, Peyton Manning threw for 71,940 yards and 531 touchdowns to just 251 interceptions-mind-boggling numbers that now represent the very target for all quarterbacks during regular season National Football League play.

The moving parts are interesting, and it starts with Manning and whether he'd want to do color commentary.
