Anfernee McLemore shares positive news after horrific injury

Saturday's loss certainly wasn't the first time Auburn was down double digits at halftime but South Carolina's 26-point lead right before that Heron dunk eclipsed its biggest 2017-18 deficit by almost ten points.

Next up for Auburn is a home matchup against Alabama Wednesday night.

Depth was already an issue for Auburn, which makes the loss of McLemore for potentially the rest of Saturday's game and beyond all the more concerning.

McLemore came down hard late in the first half while on defense.

Auburn starting forward Anfernee McLemore left the court on a stretcher after a gruesome-looking injury to his left leg late in the first half against SC on Saturday. He said that despite dislocating his ankle, fracturing his tibia, and tearing ligaments, he should be back in 4-6 months.

The Tigers (23-4, 11-3 Southeastern Conference) had won seven of their past eight and were heavy favorites to keep that going at SC (14-13, 5-9). Instead, the Gamecocks used a 21-1 run in the first half on the way to a 37-11 lead.

Emotional teammates gathered near the bench as medical personnel attended to McLemore, then surrounded him as he was taken off the court. With McLemore out on Saturday, Okeke contributed 11 points and nine rebounds. With Austin Wiley ineligible, McLemore has been the Tigers' most consistent interior presence. SC will need to channel the effort against Auburn if it hopes to make some noise down the stretch.

Auburn entered the weekend ranked No. 10 in the country and is enjoying a breakout season under fourth-year head coach Bruce Pearl. Holden missed the past 11 games with a hamstring injury.
