SpaceX Gets Nod For Satellite Broadband Network

SpaceX Gets Nod For Satellite Broadband Network

"If adopted, it would be the first approval given to an American-based company to provide broadband services using a new generation of low-Earth orbit satellite technologies". The initial satellites in the network are expected to come online next year. From which they hope to generate revenue worth more than $30 billion by 2025, a year after full deployment of the service. This would also work great for pressuring the competition to speed up the evolution of their services and promote competitive pricing (hopefully). Space Norway won approval for two satellites. The project which would be deployed fully in 2024 will earn its first demonstration on Saturday, based on the agreement between Space X and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

Hopefully, if and once they get their planned network of satellites in operational, they will begin planning out the ability to expand on the network with deep space connectivity, which can open up wider communication with neighboring stars (Moon, Mars, etc). This would also be great for breaking through and providing those in places like North Korea with an open window to seeing the rest of the world with their open eyes.

The geostationary satellites will piggyback as a secondary payload onboard the Falcon 9 as SpaceX launches the observation satellite Paz for Spanish provider Hisdesat on Sunday, Feb. 18.

Some critics of satellite broadband have highlighted the risk of creating more debris in space that could prove harmful to other space operations. The satellites will operate on different radio frequencies. He said, "We're going to try to do for satellites what we've done for rockets".

Southland residents could be treated to another Elon Musk-sponsored light show on Wednesday as Hawthorne-based SpaceX launches a mission from Vandenberg Air Force Base.

But for consumers, companies such as SpaceX believe a different approach could help lower costs and increase reliability, making satellite broadband practical for everyday use.

The need for robust, high-speed Internet access is especially pressing in developing countries, where traditional Internet infrastructure is lacking. As many as 60 million urban Americans, and 16 million rural Americans, still aren't connected to the Internet, according to the research firm IHS Markit.
